Had a customer approach me needing a responsive ecommerce web site for his company, Grillin Solutions, within a week and this is what I provided him with. The original logo was a bit to large, height wise, for a web site logo so I made some changes to it which he liked. As for the web site design, going with WordPress and Woocommerce was the best choice in setting up a responsive ecommerce web site quickly. Below is a breakdown of the home page layout or click the “See it Live!” button to check it out for yourself!
Responsive eCommerce Site Breakdown
One of the nice things about using WordPress and WooCommerce is you can quickly build a web site with them. Design is only limited by the imagination! Below is the breakdown of this simple responsive eCommerce web site.
With a big emphasis on a quick turnaround time, and a lack of supplied images (including images of their products), I decided to go with just a simple image with parallax effect and a quick intro about the company. This is something we can always revisit and revise at a later date.
Other than that we have just a basic header that includes the company logo, navigation menu, search and cart icons with the cart total. Above that is a single line with phone number, sign in or create an account link followed by their Facebook link.
The next part of their home page was fairly simple to decide upon; featured products! When you’re selling products best to get it out there as soon as possible so potential customers see them immediately. Some choose to display the products in a fancy rotating slider but, as mentioned above, time was short to get this live. But it’s another section that can be revisited if the customer chooses to do so.
Recent News Section
While this section I don’t think the customer will utilize very often but having a news or blog is something I recommend to my customers. The more relevant content you can provide the better you’ll eventually do in search results. Sometimes this area is often overlooked.
For their home page I just opted to display the 3 most recent articles with the latest being displayed promently on the top.
Footer Columns and Copyright Line
I don’t always use footer columns but I felt their web site could use a little more content so decided to put one in. That third column displays recently viewed products but may change it as it’ll remain blank until you view a product.
That about covers it for the responsive eCommerce web site I created for Grillin Solutions. If you have a need for a web site, no matter how large or small, please contact me and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
